SUBMARINE

This is obviously a quirky 'coming of age' teen movie that charts the living hell some young folk have to endure in UK schools. In point of fact, the film/story takes place in Wales, which, of course, is very much part of the 'United Kingdom,' (not to be confused with Whales), but perhaps not so much a part of British/London school culture. You Brits out there can illuminate this for us.

Topic Question: What did you get out of this film? What's it's point (IF ANY)? How does it differ from traditional Hollywood 'coming of age' flicks. What part does bullying play in the story. Why does the female protagonist so dislike physical expressions of affection? What do you really think about the use of the word 'gay' to express anything lame, stupid, dumb, ugly...and sentimental.

Give me a rambling, intelligent, insightful commentary on the film and its effect on your quivering, vulnerable, searching young minds. NO NOT TELL ME THE PLOT, because - guess what - I KNOW THAT ALREADY.

PICTURE BELOW of two wrestlers in the class, one British, one Jewish/Russian. (Rizzo: WHO?)

This film changed my whole perspective on the fact of how much schools alter in terms of behavior and personalities across the globe. The shocking bullies that roamed the school and beat the poor main character down, gave me a solid understanding of the type of people who exist in this world beyond our usual parameters. I personally have never experienced such circumstances because i was raised in a unprecedented gold medal championship academic environment, which is the reason why i am such a unorthodox never before witnessed on the face of the planet, award winning champion of the globe when it comes to being a genius. But nevertheless i have got a visual understanding on what goes on beyond these gates in other dark corners of the world. Aside from the academic aspect of this movie the female protagonist, or also known as another one of the bullies also had a impact on my view of this story, and in bigger terms, the world. Affections really seemed to affect this character, and it would be understandable if you see it from the point that she is a bully, a tomcat, they do not want to show their emotions and prefer to stay strong and portray a rough and horrific character to their society, which leads to the fact that this girl simply did not want to ruin the way her society looked at her. The word gay also plays a crucial role in altering viewpoints of the story, it is used in the most negative of concepts and does just that, it delivers negativity according to this movie. Although the global perception of this world varies across the universe, the rough, unemotional, and insensitive bullies use their little minds to generate their own definition of it, which significantly downgrades the homosexual, due to the fact that they are seen as emotional, and sensitive people, something that bullies are not.
